Just logged into my faviourite competitor backlink analysis tool, Open Site Explorer and noticed that the SEOMoz team have radically changed how it works.
…and it SUCKS!
I used to steam through loads of reports by downloading the CSV of raw link data for each competitor. Now this once speedy solution has been reduced to “Your report will be emailed to you in the next 5-10 minutes”.
So what was once a fast zippy service is now delay-ware
AARRGGHH!!!!

Hey Mark – sorry about that. It’s temporary. The quick CSV download will return within a few weeks (possibly sooner). Hope you like all the other new features.
Cool… it just takes a quick process and adds a minimum of 5 minutes to the process…
the other improvements are great tho isnt the addition of tweets is a bit redundant no?
I have to say my favourite thing is nesting domain pages! thats amazing. Just wish my spreadsheets could do that lol.
OSE is the best tool available, but I just can’t correlate the metrics to the rankings for supplements websites. Some sites have PAs of 70+ and still rank below PA 35 ish pages.
Hi Mark,
At least you’re getting something to download. for me it’s only downloading 1 or 2 rows of data.
I’m having the same problem, although it’s taken 2 days so far to export a report, and it’s still not finished. Currently it says “Finalizing. Saving export data.” But it’s been like that for some time.
In my Recent CSV Reports it has the same report about a dozen times – all with the same status ( I only want it once, but – ahem – that could be because I clicked the Download Link more than once. Me? Impatient?)
Don’t know whether that could be snarling up the process…
Quite frustrating though,
Ben
yeah i keep tweeting bugs/features which seems to work. the latest one i found was when comparing 5 domains, if you go back and try and compare 5 different ones it remembers the first ones… v annoying. still the ability to queue reports is nice… just wish they’d give you the ability to update an existing report based on the monthly linkscape update.
That’s a fantastic idea, Mark. At the moment I’d settle for just being able to export a report! I’ve submitted a support request on SEOMoz, so I’m hoping they’ll be able to sort it out. It’s not been helped by the fact that our Internet connection has been bloody hopeless this week, making the whole process fairly soul destroying. I’ve abandoned it for today. Doing something else instead, now!
