Meta Description Now Showing in Google (again)

Looks like Google has stopped using DMOZ for its description as part of the main search listings. Which is a good thing because now you can actually add in a sales message as part of your entry.

Make sure to get phone numbers and email addresses dropped in as soon as you can guys n girls!

Also noticed a shift in Googles Algo’ to favour anchor text in inbound links as opposed to page titles, so with enough IBL’s you can effectively re-write your title with a brand building marketing message.

Looks like link building is far from gone!

Update 02 Aug 07 : I recently changed my target terms to attack 2 geographic locations, Manchester and Leeds. The listing for Manchester has the Manchester keyword in the description, the one for Leeds does not. Manchester displays the Meta description, whilst Leeds uses Dmoz. So think about your long tails and keyword variants when writing a META Description.
