Hitch your wagons, there’s a new land-rush happening due to Google opening up Google+ to business for the first time.
As with regular Google+ accounts you need to have an existing Gmail etc account and can now sign up via this link.
Your next step is to choose what type of listing you want. The options aren’t that clear however I’m working on the following principles:
- Local Business Or Place
Single site business seeing only localised custom i.e. a hairdressers. I anticipate that pluses for this type of listing will contribute to Google Places and help further clutter organic serps with ‘enhanced’ places listings. - Product or Brand
This is where the land-rush will happen as people anticipate the unveiling of vanity URL’s, people will be creating pages for generic product types and trying to plus the arse out of these profiles hoping to land a preference for generic terms. - Company, Institution or Organisation
This is where I am placing my clients - Arts, Entertainment or Sports

Tips for preparing for your Google+ Business Listing
- Make sure you have a square version of your logo as Google+ crops everything into squares. Add white space top and bottom if you have to
- When writing your description make sure you add lots of links out to relevant pages on your website
- Add in as many images and videos as you can
- When posting to your Google+ wall use the full URL beginning with http:// this will then automatically accompany your post with a snippet from the target site
Unlike twitter and Facebook and Twitter, Google+ accepts more than a few short snippets of text into wall posts/tweets. You can max out posts on Google+ with long articles all designed to improve your social media profile.
