My Life

Merry Christmas 2011

December 23, 2011, by Mark Rushworth No comments yet

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

It’s been an eventful year with me waving goodbye as SEO Manager to Blueclaw in Leeds and being brought in as the broader ranging Director of Digital at Bite Digital in Manchester’s trendy Northern Quarter. Its also seen me upgrade my phone from the antiquated first gen iPhone to the shiny new 4s version. And lets not forget this years Panda epidemic and selective changes in Google’s algorithm, Google+ and HTML5 finally being used to produce some interesting things.

Next year is going to be the year of the tablet so expect jumbo icons, smooth transitions and finger friendly designs to be the trend for next year.

Im expecting Lego this year (as always) so you know i’m gonna be happy.

Merry Christmas to each and all.

MR SEO – New Design

December 8, 2011, by Mark Rushworth 2 comments

Hi all!

Ive updated by blog design today using the amazing Ampersand theme which is the first theme ive come across that appears fully SEO’d right out of the box. Whats more it gives me a little more horizontal space which means no more cramped graphics and videos yay!

Ive also added in a load of social links and got the menu system working (finally) so enjoy.

Fun and Antics with Wikipedia

December 7, 2011, by Mark Rushworth No comments yet

Jake, one of our link building apprentices has leveraged my name to poke fun at the Google Pagerank algorithm on Wikipedia.

Im both incredibly happy that he’s got to grips with the lingo used to make updates to the wikipedia system and dismayed that my name has been splashed across such a prominent page… still any excuse to mention my personal hero Optimus Prime lol.

A Big Fancy Dress Thanks to Girly Night Out

October 28, 2011, by Mark Rushworth 1 comment

its no joke that Halloween has been killing me. For weeks now I’ve been struggling around cramped fancy dress costume shops feeling ever more claustrophobic as each day passed without any success. As a big chap, finding fancy dress is always a challenge for me with many of the costumes looking ridiculous on my tall, rotund frame.

Yes i know i'm the campest werewolf in the world

It seems obvious to me now, however at the time the two didn’t connect however I have been working with Girly Night Out, a fancy dress shop for around 6 months now. So in a flash in inspiration (and desperation) I gave the girls a call to see if they could sort me out.

Not only did i get a great looking werewolf costume delivered the same day courtesy of the local taxi form but also, my costume supplied free of charge.

Needless to say I am totally blown away with their generosity and would publicly like to thank  the Girly Night Out team for (fingers crossed) making my Halloween night all the better. This time, I for one and happy that the high-street didn’t win out.

Free T-Shirt…err Monday?

August 8, 2011, by Mark Rushworth No comments yet

Today Simon got a great surprise. On his desk was a huge box containing loads of different t shirts from zendesk. It seems we’ve had some major problems and as an appology the kind guyz at zendesk have made recompense by sending us these swanky tees lol. Now i have 2 budda bellys to rub!

By all accounts we’ve something similar arriving from dotmailer too!

Look Closer, You’ll Get It Eventually

August 2, 2011, by Mark Rushworth 2 comments

Jacob, one of our junior SEO’s found this during his search for music blogs as part of our campaign for one of the UK’s largest independent musical instrument retailers. He thought that it appealed to my sense of humour… sadly it does all to well ;)

Look closely, you’ll see it eventually (apologies for anyone that finds this offensive).

Geek Graphic T Shirts & Saving Dosh

August 1, 2011, by Mark Rushworth 1 comment

I’ve introduced the gang here to the amazing threadless.com, a website where you can buy limited edition t shirts for absolute beans. Its been around for a while and ive bought various t shirts from them before but always baulked at the delivery fees.

This time around, the guys and I have clubbed together, buying over $200 (£100 ish) of t shirts in order to minimise the delivery fee… Nice!

Theres some great geek tees that appeal to our in-office sensibilities including:

SEO Q&A on QBN

May 19, 2011, by Mark Rushworth No comments yet

I’ve started my bi annual thread on the popular design forum qbn.com where people can ask me SEO questions about their sites.

If you have an SEO problem or would like some of the myths dispelled then why not join up and ask away.

Theres some crayzee people on qbn who are super talented so even if you’re not into SEO (which most of them are not) then you might be able to find a great illustrator, web designer (which i also do), 3D or video guy to help you out with your project…

…as well ass the odd forum troll lolz.
